CUNA and National Association of Realtors Joint Letter to House Judiciary Committee members regarding the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2003

March 10, 2003

Dear Representative:

We are writing today on behalf of the Credit Union National Association, the nation's 83 million credit union members, and more than 880,000 members of THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® in support of H.R. 975, the "Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2003." We urge you to quickly report this bill and bring it to the House floor for passage.

H.R. 975 will provide a more balanced approach to the bankruptcy laws of this nation that will increase credit availability to consumers. REALTORS® and Credit Unions recognize the importance of credit to our joint goal of increasing homeownership opportunities for all Americans. We believe H.R. 975, substantially similar to legislation passed by the House last year, would help us accomplish that goal.

We look forward to working with you toward enactment of this important legislation. If there is anything we can do to assist you in this effort, please contact us.

Sincerely,
Daniel A. Mica
President and CEO
CREDIT UNION NATIONAL ASSOCIATION

Cathy Whatley
President
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®
