Letter to members of the U.S. House of Representatives regarding bankruptcy abuse reform legislation
September 6, 2002
As a follow-up to my letter to you of September 4, I strongly urged you to vote for both the conference report on H.R. 333, the bankruptcy abuse reform act, but also for the rule to bring it to the floor. In that letter I indicated that passage of this important legislation is our number one legislative priority, and is viewed as "must pass" legislation. Please be assured that credit unions view the vote on the rule as tantamount to a vote on the bill. As you know, if the rule is defeated, there will be no opportunity to vote on the conference report.
I cannot overemphasize how closely our leadership and membership are monitoring the vote on the rule and vote on final passage on this issue. They consider this extremely important because of its vital concern to credit unions.
Again, I strongly urge you to vote for both the rule and the conference report for H.R. 333 when they come to the House floor. I also ask for your assistance in getting the conference report to the floor as soon as possible.
