Student Lending Survey Draws Attention
CUNA's first annual High School Student Borrowing Survey found that nearly half of U.S. high school seniors don't know how much money they will need for college. The survey results have been covered by well-known news outlets like the Huffington Post, Sacramento Bee and KTEN.com in Texas and Oklahoma, as well as in more specialized publications. (page 1)
Lawmakers' 2013 Reg Relief Efforts Start
Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer's (R-Mo.) regulatory relief bill is good as a first step toward fixing issues that burden credit unions, CUNA President/CEO Bill Cheney said late last month. However, Cheney noted, "More will need to be done to address the cumulative effect of regulatory changes that continue tochallenge credit unions." (page 1)

8 CU Members Relax Borrowing Inhibition
There was a little easing during this year's first quarter in consumers' unwillingness to borrow. Loan balances rose 0.4% in the first three months of 2013, compared with a slight decline in the first quarter of 2012. For March alone, credit union loans totaled $617.3 billion, compared with $586.9 billion in March 2012. (page 8)
