Missouri Credit Unions Reach a Milestone in Growth12/27/2013The Missouri Division of credit unions recently made an announcement regarding the 118 state-chartered credit unions it regulates. As of June, state charted credit unions had $11.2 billion in assets, $9.7 billion in deposits and the loan volume reached $6.5 billion.

Arizona Banks, Credit Unions Keep Gaining Strength12/22/2013Arizona's credit unions also saw improvement in the third quarter. Bauer said 84.4 percent of the state's credit unions were recommended, while just 4.4 percent were rated troubled or problematic, improving from 76 percent recommended and 6.5 percent troubled or problematic in third-quarter 2012.

Mortgage Growth Among Positives for Nebraska Credit Unions Through 3rd Quarter12/19/2013The Nebraska Credit Union League, the umbrella group for 65 of the state's 69 credit unions, said loans outstanding rose 4.7 percent as of Sept. 30 from a year earlier, to $2.4 billion. Mortgages rose 7.7 percent to $752.6 million, "marking the highest growth since the recession," the league said.

Idaho Credit Unions Lead the Nation in Gains12/18/2013A recent report from the National Credit Union Association said that Idaho had 15.2 percent loan growth, up to $3.75 billion in loans, for the year ending in September. That is more than double the national average of less than 7 percent growth. Membership at credit unions grew by 8.9 percent, more than triple the national average of 2.2 percent.

Local Credit Unions Eye Mobile Wallet Application12/16/2013CU Wallet, a mobile payments technology provider, and Connect Financial Software Solutions have launched a mobile wallet application that is being marketed to credit unions nationwide.Since its announcement last month, more than 30 credit unions, with 4 million members and $52 billion in assets, have signed up to offer members the technology. Las Vegas-based One Nevada Credit Union and Clark County Credit Union are among participants.

Bipartisan Legislation Would Provide Boost to Credit Union Lending for Mortgages and Small Business12/12/2013Credit unions would gain access to a wider swath of funds for mortgage and small business loans under bipartisan legislation introduced by Ohio Sens. Sherrod Brownand Rob Portman. The legislation introduced Thursday gives privately insured credit unions access to the Federal Home Loan Bank system, freeing up credit for residential mortgages, small business loans and economic development, backers say.

Credit Unions Back Up in Service Satisfaction Ranking12/10/2013Credit unions received strong marks for their member service at branches, the ACSI noted.  In addition to having very courteous and helpful staff, members said transactions were quicker and more efficient compared to banks.

Colorado Credit Unions Performing Well But Banks Lagging, Report Says12/10/2013Colorado credit unions improved their financial health in the past year, vaulting to 11th best nationally for the number of recommended institutions, according to a new report. But banks in Colorado, which improved compared with last year, lagged compared with the rest of the nation, dropping to 42nd for the number of those recommended.

Credit Union Deposits in Iowa Set National Pace12/10/2013Credit union deposits increased more rapidly in Iowa than in any other state during the third quarter, growing 9 percent on a year-over-year basis to $10.1 billion, according to data released Monday by the Iowa Credit Union League.That's more than double the 4.2 percent growth reported nationally.

Credit Unions' Ending Hunger Walking Tour Visits Area Food Pantry12/05/2013Recently, the 12th annual Maine Credit Unions' Ending Hunger Walking Tour delivered contributions to food pantries in communities across the Midcoast region including a food pantry in Lincoln County. Brenda Davis, one of the state's leading ending hunger advocates, has been partnering with Maine's credit unions to coordinate the Ending Hunger Walking Tour for the past 12 years.
