"Catch the $ave Wave™" Announced as 2014 Theme for Youth Week
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MADISON, Wis. (January 17, 2014) - Credit unions nationwide selected "Catch the $ave Wave™" to be the theme for the 2014 National Credit Union Youth Week™, which will take place April 20-26, 2014. The concept was chosen from ideas submitted by credit union staff this fall.
"Catch the $ave Wave" harnesses the fun of sunny beaches and surfing to engage younger members and potential members with their credit union. The goal of Youth Week is to pave the path to life-long credit union membership by encouraging kids to set up savings accounts, learn how to manage money, and be more financially literate.
This year's theme selection was suggested by of a number of credit union professionals: "Kids loved a recent campaign with beach balls throughout our lobby," shared submitted Meredith Mosely, marketing director at Tomah Area Credit Union in Tomah, WI. "With Youth Week in the spring, kids will be ready for summer."
Credit unions nationwide may join in the celebration through April, or just during National Credit Union Youth Week, by encouraging youth to set up savings accounts and learn how to manage money. By focusing on potential younger members, participants will have the opportunity to lower their age demographics, while increasing the loyalty of parents.
"National Credit Union Youth Week fits perfectly with the credit union cooperative principle of member education," says Jan Garkey, CUNA's Youth Week Coordinator. "Expose young children to the credit union through regular deposits of their quarters, hold a Mad City Money simulation at a local high school, or hold a parent seminar on how to teach money skills to children. Use the celebration to create a new generation of financially literate consumers, and have fun in the process."
