MADISON, Wis. (4/28/15)--Enrollment is open for CUNA's National Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS) approved mortgage loan originator (MLO) self-study course.
All mortgage loan originators are required to receive periodic MLO training under the new Regulation Z rules.
"Credit unions who utilize CUNA's MLO courses can be confident they will satisfy the requirement under Regulation Z, and the new self-study course is a convenient option for mortgage loan originators," said Tracy Blaske, CUNA director of compliance education.
Only NMLS-approved courses are considered safe harbors under the new Regulation Z rules. CUNA's approved self-study
is designed specifically for credit unions and the course, instructed by Michael Christians from PolicyWorks, meets the continuing education requirements of the SAFE Act. At the end of the course, participants will take the required examination and receive a completion certificate.
The course covers:
- Federal laws and regulations;
- Ethics, consumer protection and fair lending; and
- Lending standards for the non-traditional mortgage product marketplace.
CUNA also offers MLO training at various leagues around the country. Leagues can sign up to host a training session by contacting
or call 608-231-4030.
