Paul Gentile is the executive vice president of strategic communications and engagement at the Credit Union National
Prior to joining CUNA in that role, Gentile was president/CEO of the New Jersey Credit Union League, the state trade
association for New Jersey’s credit unions. Gentile re-energized the New Jersey Credit Union League by launching new
branding efforts, programs, and political action. Under Gentile’s direction the League launched the “Banking You Can
Trust” consumer awareness campaign and spearheaded the passage of public deposit legislation in the face of intense
Gentile has also served as the editor and publisher of Credit Union Times, a national weekly publication covering the
credit union movement. He has written hundreds of articles on all facets of the credit union movement and authored a
popular opinion column.
Gentile believes credit unions play a vital role in the financial services industry by offering consumers a low-cost,
high-quality financial experience. He is an advocate of regulatory flexibility for credit unions so they can provide
their services to more consumers. Gentile was the impetus behind the creation of aSmarterChoice, the national consumer
awareness web site developed by the CUNA/League system.
Gentile is a graduate of the University of Delaware and resides in Maryland with his wife Janet and twin eight-year-
old boys Joseph and Christopher.
