Pat Sowick is senior vice president, CUNA league and state affairs for the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and the American Association of Credit Union Leagues (AACUL). As such, she coordinates the efforts between CUNA and the state credit union leagues in order to best represent the interests of the credit union movement across the United States. She also provides management oversight for Credit Union House.
She is located in CUNA’s Washington office, which provides political, legislative, regulatory, legal, public
relations, public affairs, state government affairs, and other services for state leagues and credit unions.
Sowick was previously the vice president of operations for CUNA, where she oversaw the human resources, facilities
management, and information technologies functions in the Washington offices.
Since joining CUNA in 1997, she has played an instrumental role in the growth of CUNA’s Washington operations,
including its office relocation in 2004, and in the creation of Credit Union House, which gives credit unions an
increased presence on Capitol Hill.
Prior to CUNA, she worked for 15 years in the federal government, including four years as a legislative assistant
to former Congressman Ray McGrath (R-N.Y.), and as a political appointee during the Reagan administration.
She serves as the treasurer of the Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC) and as assistant secretary of
Credit Union House. She is also a member of the American Society of Association Executives.
Sowick has a bachelor’s degree in political science from the State University of New York at Albany and has taken
graduate study courses in public policy at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She has been a member of
the Congressional Federal Credit Union since 1981.
