Troy Stang serves as President and CEO of the Northwest Credit Union Association, leading the NWCUA throughout the Northwest states of Oregon and Washington. He has made a strong commitment to effective, strategic advocacy on behalf of member credit unions before public policy makers at all levels of state and federal government.
Mr. Stang brings a strong and diverse background to the role of President of NWCUA, including serving under the US Treasury Cabinet Secretary as a senior advisor for public and legislative affairs. He previously served as Vice President of the Texas Credit Union League in Dallas, President-CEO of the Credit Union Association of Oregon and has over a decade of credit union leadership experience, including oversight of strategic growth and development for one of the nation’s largest credit unions.
His appointment to Treasury resulted from his wide range of experience in credit union management, operations and trade association leadership. Not only did Mr. Stang execute a key strategic role in a large asset credit union, he also has the perspective achieved as the manager of a rural community credit union in his home state of Minnesota.
As a recognized leader in the evolution of the national credit union movement, Stang serves on a number of national advisory panels including the Western CUNA Management School Board of Trustees and the Consumer Awareness Task Force of the American Association of Credit Union Leagues. Additionally, he holds a Development Educator designation from the National Credit Union Foundation, serves on the AACUL Regulatory Advisory Committee and the AACUL System Evolution Task Force.
Mr. Stang has a master’s degree from The College of St. Scholastica, St. Paul, Minnesota; his bachelor’s degree from Concordia University, St. Paul, Minnesota; and an associate of applied science degree from St. Cloud Technical College, St, Cloud Minnesota.
