Title: Communications Executive
Location: Washington, DC
Bachelor’s degree in business or mass communications, journalism, advertising or marketing. Master’s Degree is preferred. 10 years
executive management experience, a minimum of seven years communication and public relations experience to include: work with both print,
electronic media, social media, formulating and implementing media and public relations strategies, designing/coordinating advertising
and marketing campaigns, and working with governmental and regulatory agencies. Experience with budgets and staff management.
Operational knowledge of financial institutions (preferably credit unions). Knowledge and involvement with Public Relations Society of
America (PRSA), International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) or other national communications group. Senior leadership
skills, staff relationships skills, and interpersonal relationship skills.
Serves as a member of the executive management team. Develops the strategic goals and objectives to support CUNA and credit union
system communications and public relations initiatives. Counsel the President and Board of Directors on communication strategies and
As the senior public relations executive, provide information to the national media, credit union movement, other credit union
organizations, and credit union leadership about issues or topics of national interest and concern. Ensure that CUNA, CUNA’s Partners and
credit unions are promoted in a positive light with all target audiences. Coordinate a consistent, uniform message and ensure that it is
carried out by on all key communications issues. Direct and actively manage any retained consultants on public relations issues to ensure
broad coverage of CUNA, credit unions and its credit union partners.
Recognize CUNA’s competitors and ensure that CUNA’s communications are more timely, comprehensive and consistent in order to create a
competitive edge over its competitors. Monitor the broader financial services system and identify media and communication opportunities
that better position the credit union system over its competitors.
Oversee strategies and objectives that work for each unit within CUNA to communicate the value the organization provides to our
members. Ensure that other system members are informed of critical issues and development on a local, state, and national level to assure
consistent messages from the system members. Coordinate messaging on key issues to state associations/leagues and manager internal
industry communications as well as external strategic communications
