John Magill is the senior vice president of legislative affairs in the Credit Union National Association's (CUNA) Washington, D.C., office. CUNA's Washington office provides political, legislative, regulatory, legal, public relations, public affairs, state government affairs, and other services for state leagues and credit unions.

In his current capacity, he assumes a full range of lobbying duties, including the coordination and supervision of the activities of CUNA's legislative team, representing the interests of the credit union movement before both houses of Congress.

A prominent and accomplished congressional staff administrator, Magill has nearly 30 years' experience on the Hill, the past 19 of those working for Rep. Wally Herger (R-Calif.), a former chairman of the Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support for the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee. Magill was most recently chief of staff for Rep. Herger.

He also served as an administrative assistant to retired Rep. G. William Whitehurst (R-Va.) and as senior staff assistant/counsel to the late Rep. J. Kenneth Robinson (R-Va.).

On Capitol Hill, Magill has been involved in a number of organizations and groups related to congressional operations. He is a vice president and member of the board of directors of the Capitol Hill Club, established for members of the Republican Party; former president of the association of current and former congressional chiefs of staff; and a former treasurer and president of the Hill Investment Club, a Republican social organization.

Magill is a cum laude graduate of the University of Tennessee, and holds a J.D. from Tennessee. He is married to Susan Aheron Magill, who in January 2006 retired as chief of staff to Sen. John Warner, (R-Va.), after 24 years of service. She now holds a senior executive position in government affairs for the Pew Charitable Trusts.
