Don’t Miss This Year’s Distinguished Keynote Speakers
Gen. Colin Powell
Don’t miss the opening keynote session where Gen. Colin Powell will illustrate
precisely what it takes to be a leader, providing leadership strategies for taking
charge during times of great crisis and change.
One of the most admired men in America, Gen. Powell has been a leader for most
of his life – as a military leader, as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and as
Secretary of State. But Gen. Powell believes a leader is more than just his or her
title. Drawing on examples garnered from experience as both a leader on the world
stage and as eyewitness to leadership in action, Gen. Powell demonstrates how to
remain focused, take responsibility, and work toward improving processes, organizations,
and people.
Chris Matthews
Always ready to play “hardball” with rapid-fire questions and quick wit, Chris Matthews
will provide his no-nonsense take on the 2008 political scene. As host of MSNBC’s “Hardball
with Chris Matthews,” NBC’s “The Chris Matthews Show,” and as a frequent commentator on
NBC’s “Today,” Matthews is as entertaining as he is insightful. One of the most recognizable
personalities in political punditry, Chris Matthews is never shy about asking tough questions
to uncover the reality behind the spin.
Razor-sharp wit combined with an intense focus on getting to the kernel of an issue are
hallmarks of Matthews’ presentation. Matthews learned the political game while working on
the frontlines as a speechwriter for President Carter and as top aide to House Speaker Tip
O’Neill.
Dave Barry
For 25 years, Dave Barry's side-splitting column appeared in more than 500 newspapers
worldwide. Well-known for his former internationally syndicated column, Dave Barry discusses
(read: “pokes merciless fun at”) various major issues, including the international economy,
the future of democracy, society and exploding bathroom fixtures. Barry won the Pulitzer Prize
for Commentary – and immediately demanded a recount. Barry has also written more than a score
of books, virtually none of which contain any useful information. Two of them were the basis
for the CBS TV sitcom Dave’s World, in which Harry Anderson played a much taller version of
Dave. No two speeches of Dave Barry's are exactly the same. Dave brings his hilarious sense
of humor to wrap up this years GAC.
