National Youth Saving Challenge™

The National Youth Saving Challenge takes place during the month of April. It is held in conjunction with National Credit Union Youth Week, sponsored by the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). Sign up now to join hundreds of other credit unions who teach youth the benefits of saving. Last year nearly 146,000 young members deposited $28.5 million into their saving accounts during this national event—with 9,058 of these new accounts.

Participation in the free Saving Challenge is your opportunity to build a strong relationship with young members in your community—and their families—by reinforcing the benefits of credit union membership. Help youth start a savings habit while creating member loyalty. You'll also get the chance to win $100 for one of your young members.

Only affiliated credit unions are eligible to participate in the Saving Challenge.

New to the Savings Challenge?  Here are step-by-step instructions to help!

Track deposits any time during April
You can choose to run your Saving Challenge during Youth Week, over several weeks, or the entire month of April. Select the timeframe that fits your community calendar. It's up to you.

Why take the challenge?

  • The National Youth Saving Challenge puts the spotlight on credit unions and highlights your community service and financial education efforts. This service commitment is what makes credit unions unique when compared to other financial institutions.
  • The Saving Challenge is a great project to involve your entire staff in getting new, younger members and helping current members become more active. Encourage employees to get the youth they know—family, friends and neighbors—to participate.
  • It's free. We provide marketing materials, forms and creative ideas. All you add is a little time and a commitment to youth. Make your event even better with incentives and giveaways for youth who open or add to accounts.
  • CUNA reports the deposits and uses Saving Challenge figures to promote the credit union difference in both state and national lobbying efforts.

Free Loan Campaign

You can bring in new loans along with young members this April when you register for the National Youth Saving Challenge™. New in 2012, all registered credit unions have access to tools to run a loan campaign along with the Challenge.

Reward adults who bring in youth depositors during April

Making Youth Week a family affair builds loyal members. The strategy is simple. When adults bring youth into your branches this April to open an account (or perhaps just make a deposit to an existing account), thank them with a grown-up-sized reward.
