Gary J. Kohn
Gary J. Kohn is Vice President, Legislative Affairs and Senior Legislative Counsel for the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). Since joining CUNA in June 1993, he has assumed the full range of lobbying duties, representing the interests of the credit union movement before both houses of Congress. In his current capacity, Kohn coordinates and supervises the activities of CUNAs legislative team. Since 2002, Gary has been CUNAs representative on the Board of Directors of the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy, and currently represents CUNA as a member of the Consumer Literacy Consortium and the Advisory Council of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling.
A graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and a member of the District of Columbia bar, he was previously employed in a similar capacity by the Independent Bankers Association of America (IBAA) as its Senate and tax lobbyist. Before that, he held a similar position with the Investment Company Institute, the national trade association for the nations mutual fund industry. Before working at the Library of Congress as a research librarian, Kohn was a research assistant for former Representative Donald J. Mitchell, and the Administrative Assistant for the then Maryland State Senator, Steny H. Hoyer. Kohn was a contributing author to Compliance with Lobbying Laws and Gift Rules Guide (Glasser: LegalWorks, 1996), writing a section on trade association compliance, using CUNA as a model. A resident of Greenbelt, Maryland, he has been active in civic, political and religious organizations.
