On behalf of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and America’s nearly 86 million credit union members, I am writing to express our deep appreciation to you for the introduction of H.R. 2317, the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act of 2005 (CURIA).

We greatly appreciate your leadership on CURIA in this Congress and the 108th Congress. Your actions clearly demonstrate your commitment to the future of credit unions and their ability to operate more effectively and efficiently to serve their members.

As a senior Member of the House Financial Services Committee, you are very cognizant of the essential role that credit unions play in the growth of our economy. This legislation will promote economic growth by enabling credit unions to better serve the financial needs of their members in the 21st Century. CURIA will modernize credit union capital standards, provide greater access to capital for members’ small businesses, and improve the quality of services available to credit union members by eliminating unnecessary regulations.

We thank you for your outstanding leadership on behalf of our credit unions and look forward to working with you on this important legislation.
