Overview

The Legislative Summit will be held July 22 to 26 in the Ernest Morial Convention Center in New Orleans (A few meetings will also be held in the nearby Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel). Key events for state credit union associations and leagues and CUNA will be held Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, July 23 to 25. The complete schedule of NCSL events is available on the NCSL's website at: http://www.ncsl.org/summit/schedule.htm.

Important Events

Reception With Special Guest Ken Osmond

CUNA has planned two related events that we hope will provide you with an exceptional opportunity to meet with legislators from your state under memorable circumstances. On Friday, July 25, from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM, you will be able to host legislators and their guests at a reception to be held in the Blaine Kern Ballroom at the New Orleans Marriott Convention Center Hotel, which is (not surprisingly) located right across the street from the Ernest Morial Convention Center (This time was chosen to avoid conflicts with NCSL - sponsored events). We expect to have 400 to 500 legislators and their guests attend this event, and there will be lots of scrumptious food and drink for them to enjoy.

Ken Osmond, known to millions of Americans as Eddie Haskell of the "Leave It To Beaver" television show, will be CUNA's special guest at the reception. We will show a short film featuring highlights of Mr. Osmond's appearances on the show, after which Mr. Osmond will talk about the show, his life as a Los Angeles police officer, and his support of credit unions. After that, he will meet and greet you and your guests!

Special Photo Opportunity With Ken Osmond

Immediately prior to the reception, your specially-invited legislators (and you, too, if you come to New Orleans) can have photographs taken by CUNA with Mr. Osmond. After NCSL, we will have these photos printed and sent to you to give to your legislators as mementos of this year's meeting.

The photo opportunity will be held from 3:00 to 4:00 in the Fleur De Lis conference room of the Marriott Hotel. After having your photos taken, you and your guests can then attend the reception in the nearby Blaine Kern Ballroom.

CUNA's Booth At The Convention Center

CUNA will have a large booth - featuring entirely new displays - in a central location of the Convention Center. These large-scale, beautiful, state-of-the art displays will illustrate the missions of credit unions and CUNA. As in the past, there will also be treats and giveaway items and credit union literature for visitors to the booth.

CUNA's booth is No. 736. The booth will be open on Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and on Friday from 9:00 AM to noon.

We encourage you to visit and "work" the booth as often as your time permits on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. We expect lots of traffic and many opportunities for you to meet legislators from your state and elsewhere.

States' Night

A perennially important event at the NCSL, States' Night will be Thursday, July 24, 2008.

Lodging

The NCSL has made available a wide variety of lodging choices for those attending the Legislative Summit. There are over a dozen hotels offering special rates for NCSL attendees, with per-night prices starting at $129. Although all hotels are located within walking distance of the Ernest Morial Convention Center, the Marriott Convention Center Hotel, the Hotel New Orleans, the Hilton Garden Inn, and the Hampton Inn are the closest.

If you wish to stay at one of the NCSL-selected hotels, you may make your reservation online. Just access NCSL's website and go to the "Housing" menu at this address: http://www.ncsl.org/summit/housing.htm.

(Note: If you are a member of CUNA's State Credit Union Subcommittee, you will receive a separate communication about hotel reservations.)

What's To Come

In the coming weeks, we will be communicating with you about the following:
-- Tickets to the reception and photo opportunity with Ken Osmond
-- Exhibitor passes to the Legislative Summit

(These discount-priced passes will give you access to the Convention Center exhibition hall, general sessions of the Legislative Summit, and most policy meetings. Unless you wish to attend any of the "Networking Roundtables" or the DLCC or RLCC luncheons or other special events, you do not need to purchase a general registration for the conference.)

-- Lists of attendees, to assist you in planning your invitations to legislators for the CUNA events and your other opportunities to interact with your state's legislators.
