First hearing features five panels

The first public hearing of CUNA's Renaissance Commission will feature five panels from a variety of credit union representatives offering their views on how to preserve and enhance the viability of federal and state charters.

The public hearing, set for Oct. 2 in conjunction with CUNA's 16th National Credit Union Symposium & Annual Meeting in Chicago, is the first held by the Commission. The Oct. 2 hearing, as well as at least two others planned by the Commission, are designed as forums where the Commission can hear both from representatives of the credit union community, and those having an impact on the credit union community, about recommendations for bolstering federal and state credit union charters.

The five panels at the Oct. 2 hearing include:

  • Panel 1: Charter changes
    • David Vigren, ESL Federal Credit Union, Rochester, N.Y.; Grace Mayo, Telesis CU, Chatsworth, Calif.
  • Panel 2: Small and large CUs
    • Don Larsen, Community CU (and chair of CUNA's Small CU Committee), Tacoma, Wash.; Terry West, Jax Navy FCU, Jacksonville, Fla.
  • Panel 3: Private Share Insurance
    • Dennis Adams, American Share Insurance, Dublin, Ohio; Gordon Dames, Mountain America CU, Salt Lake City, Utah.
  • Panel 4: State charters
    • Witnesses to be chosen by NASCUS Credit Union Council
  • Panel 5: Federal Charters
    • Witnesses to be chosen by NAFCU.

The hearing gets underway at 1:30 p.m.
