ALICIA VALENCIA ERB

Alicia Valencia Erb comes to CUNA and AACUL from a CUNA system partner, the National Cooperative Business Association, where she was Assistant Director of Marketing, Membership and Meetings. Alicia works out of the CUNA Washington, D.C. office, which provides political, legislative, regulatory, legal, state government affairs, and other services for state leagues and credit unions.

While at NCBA, Alicia worked to develop membership and marketing campaigns, strategized on generating non-dues revenue by seeking corporate sponsorships from co-op partnering organizations and marketed a corporate awards program. She also directed NCBA's annual meeting and sector conference for purchasing conferences and worked with volunteers in putting together successful educational conferences. In addition, Alicia wore her sales hat for Dot Coop LLC, which sells top-level domain for cooperatives, known as .coop. In 2003, after learning the cooperative business model, Alicia signed on to receive training in the National Credit Union Foundation's credit union development educators program and was certified as a credit union development educator (CUDE).

After five years at NCBA, Alicia joined CUNA in 2006 as AACUL's Corporate Secretary and CUNA League Relations Manager. In her dual roles, Alicia manages board governance activities and the various committees and task forces created by AACUL. She also provides direction and coordination of AACUL's summer and winter meetings and special events, maintains the AACUL website, and oversees the departmental management functions. Additionally, Alicia manages the operations of finances and various budgets that fall under League Relations and AACUL.

Before beginning her service to cooperatives and credit unions, Alicia worked in marketing and public relations for a Maryland state university and in publishing at the World Headquarters of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Alicia obtained her bachelor’s degree in English Language & Literature from the University of Maryland at College Park, completed coursework in event management from the George Washington University and is a member of the American Society of Association Executives, where she serves on several ad hoc committees.
