Saturday, Nov. 11: Raising awareness
We stopped by a training session on PEARLS and Model CU Building, taught by a CU-TEs. The session, presented by the City Cooperative Development Office, the local government co-op agency, to representatives from credit unions not associated with CUES, hoped to attract 40. Instead, it ended up with 69 attendees, who paid to attend. This is extraordinary; most government training is free.
By Lois' own admission, these people won't head home and switch to the CUES program. However, the training will open their eyes to a different way of doing things. Raising awareness of a new, successful way to operate is the first step toward change.
