Community development relief, rebuilding fund grows
NEW YORK (11/9/05)--Another donation to the Community Development Relief and Rebuilding Fund will help the hurricane-affected community development credit unions get back on their feet.
The Shefa Fund/Jewish Funds for Justice committed $50,000 to the relief fund administered by the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions.
The Shefa Fund split a $100,000 grant from UJA Federation of New York between hurricane relief and the Enterprise Corp. of Hope Community CU, Jackson, Miss.
Hope Community CU had recently opened a branch in New Orleans, which was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The Shefa Fund donation will go to rebuilding the facility.
The National Credit Union Foundation also pledged $150,000 to the relief fund.
"With their help we will be able to address not only immediate needs, but also the vital task of retuning CDCUs and other low-income credit unions to health," said federation Executive Director Cliff Rosenthal.
