Valentine's Day relief checks, roses in Mississippi

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (2/16/06)--Valentine's Day is all about spreading the love, and Southeast Corporate FCU and the Mississippi Credit Union Association did their part by delivering roses and $200 checks to those affected by hurricanes.

Charles Elliott, president/CEO, Mississippi Credit Union Association, and Jamie Duncan, member relationship manager at the corporate, visited 14 credit unions and delivered more than 650 roses and more than $68,000 in relief checks.

More than 340 staff and volunteers at hurricane-affected credit unions in the Gulf Coast area received the holiday surprise with a card that read, "You are part of something much bigger than you may ever know. For what you have endured and for your commitment to

serving the needs of others, we are most proud! May you find hope in knowing our continued thoughts, prayers and love are with you!"

Many recipients are still displaced after Hurricane Katrina, living with friends, family or in temporary accommodations.

Elliott discussed the idea of relief checks and roses with Bill Birdwell, president/CEO, Southeast Corporate. The project would extend hope and caring, and serve as a reminder to the credit unions that their credit union family had not forgotten them.
