Warner Brothers show praises CUs' payday-loan efforts

MADISON, Wis. (9/25/06)--A nationally syndicated morning news show on the Warner Brothers channel last week gave praise to credit unions offering payday loan alternatives.

In the 7 a.m. broadcast Wednesday, Andrea Jackson, newscaster on the "Daily Buzz," commented on that morning's news, which included a prominent article featuring credit unions as alternatives to payday lenders in the Money section of USA TODAY.

Jackson noted that credit unions were offering 12% loans instead of outrageous interest rates charged by payday lenders.

Her cohost, John Brown, admitted he got payday loans while in college and needed to get a loan from his mother to pay them back.

Although she mentioned no credit union specifically by name, Jackson praised credit unions for providing alternatives to payday lending for consumers.
