CUNA Council scholarships increase to $80,000

MADISON, Wis. (1/4/07)--Four CUNA Councils collectively awarded $66,000 in scholarships last year and hope to increase the amount awarded to $80,000 in 2007.

The councils are sponsored by the Credit Union National Association (CUNA).

CUNA's Lending Council, Chief Financial Officers (CFO) Council, Marketing and Business Development Council and Technology Council scholarships are dispensed to help improve education, skills and opportunities for employees of small credit unions.

The scholarships can be applied to fees and costs for select schools and conferences offered by CUNA, or they can go toward council membership for eligible credit union employees.

Each council's benefits committee awards scholarships based on skill need and financial need. Although each council maintains different scholarship criteria, all applicants must meet these minimum eligibility requirements:

  • Credit unions must demonstrate a financial need (determined by the selection committee);
  • The recipient must be a full-time employee of a credit union; and
  • The recipient must be from an affiliated credit union.

Scholarships are applied only to approved programs. Each council's website has a list of applicable programs, dates and application deadlines. For more information, including downloadable application forms, use the resource links.
