Mica Minute: Bankers' hypocrisy on CURIA
WASHINGTON (4/11/07)--Even though the full Congress does not return to Washington until next week, bankers are already flooding lawmakers' offices trying to impede co-sponsorship of the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act (CURIA, H.R. 1537)), Credit Union National Association (CUNA) President and CEO Dan Mica points out in his latest blog posting.
But in doing so, Mica says, bankers are only showing their hypocrisy.
The CUNA leader makes his point in his latest post to The Mica Minute, found at www.danmica.com. The forum features Mica discussing current credit union issues in one-minute video clips. Credit union activists can comment on each post.
Mica says in the video that one of the bullet points bankers use in talking to Congress is that, in CURIA, "credit unions are asking for more authority to serve the underserved." The bankers then add, "We should not let them do that."
"It's just another example of banker hypocrisy," Mica observes.
