Mica Minute takes on bank group merger
WASHINGTON (7/2/07)Credit Union National Association (CUNA) President/CEO Dan Mica is warning that the recently announced merger of two banking trade groups is a major signal to credit unions to present a united front on key issues.
Referring to last week's announcement that the American Bankers Association and America's Community Bankers are combining to form a single group, Mica said they did so to form a stronger advocacy group.
He cautioned that the merger will result in a stronger, tougher
lobbying group, which will "speak with one voice" for the banking industry. The combined group will represent 95% of all assets in the industry.
"So what we need to do is to take warning, understand this is going to be a continued battle, and we must now more than ever speak with one voice.
"It is important, now more than ever, that we get a clear, direct focused message to Capitol Hill," Mica urged.
