CU opens only FI in Vaughn, N.M.

VAUGHN, N.M. (3/8/07)--Vaughn, N.M., a town with a population of 500, now has a financial institution, thanks to Everyone's FCU.

The Tucumcari-based $13 million asset credit union officially opened the only financial institution in the rural town Feb. 23.

"We look forward to a long and productive relationship with the citizens and businesses of this great community," said Andi Baum, CEO.

Before the credit union branch opened, residents of Vaughn had to travel 40 miles to Santa Rosa, the largest nearby town, or 100 miles to Tucumcari for financial services after Wells Fargo closed its branch in early 2006.

Everyone's FCU and ENMR Plateau Telecommunications partnered to bring the financial institutions to Vaughn. The new credit union branch is located at the offices of the telecommunications company, a cooperative that provides telephone and wireless services to towns in rural eastern New Mexico.

In addition to regular member services, the new branch offers the Kirby Kangaroo Club for younger members. The full-service branch includes a CU Anytime ATM outside the front door. It also will soon offer commercial checking, and many local business owners have expressed interest in signing up, said Baum.
