Thomas D. (Trey) Hawkins, III
Trey Hawkins is Vice President, Political Affairs, for the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). His responsibilities include the management of the Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC), CUNA's
federal PAC, and mobilizing political action on behalf of credit union-friendly candidates nationwide. Since joining CUNA in 2005, Trey has grown CULAC to over $4 million in receipts per election cycle, ranking
it among the largest PACs in the nation.
Prior to joining CUNA, Trey spent five years in political fundraising and campaign management. He served as the Louisiana Democratic Party's Finance Director during the 2003 state and 2004 federal elections, where he increased the Party's annual giving by over 33%, tripled party's grassroots donor base, and raised more than $5.7 million for the party and its candidates. In particular, he directed overall fundraising strategy for the coordinated campaign efforts that elected a Governor, four of the other five statewide office holders in Louisiana, and U.S. Congressman Charlie Melancon (D-LA).
Trey also managed a primary campaign for Illinois Lieutenant Governor and directed campaign finance strategy for three nationally-targeted U.S. House campaigns in Illinois, Tennessee and Iowa. A native of Montgomery, Alabama, Trey holds a B.A. in History and American Politics and Policy from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. He resides with his wife and two children in Arlington, Virginia.
