Thomas D. (Trey) Hawkins, III

Trey Hawkins has been CUNA’s Political Director since February 2005. His responsibilities include the management of the Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC), CUNA’s federal PAC and one of the largest in the nation, as well as political action on behalf of credit union-friendly candidates nationwide.

Prior to joining CUNA, Trey spent five years in political fundraising and campaign management. He served as the Louisiana Democratic Party’s Finance Director during the 2003 state and 2004 federal elections, where he increased the Party’s annual giving by over 33%, tripled party’s grassroots donor base, and raised over $5.7 million for the party and its candidates. In particular, he directed overall fundraising strategy for the coordinated campaign efforts that elected Governor Kathleen Blanco (D), four of the other five statewide office holders in Louisiana, and U.S. Congressman Charlie Melancon (D-LA).

Trey also managed a primary campaign for Illinois Lieutenant Governor and directed campaign finance strategy for three nationally-targeted U.S. House campaigns in Illinois, Tennessee and Iowa. A native of Montgomery, Alabama, Trey holds a B.A. in History and American Politics and Policy from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. He resides with his wife and daughter in Arlington, Virginia.
