What is CULAC?
The Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC) is the federal PAC for the Credit Union National
Association (CUNA). CULACs purpose, as defined in its Articles of Association, is to "provide the opportunity for
individuals interested in the future of the credit union movement to contribute to the support of worthy
candidates for federal office who believe, and have demonstrated their belief, in the principles to which the
industry is dedicated."
CULAC accomplishes its mission by contributing to and supporting federal candidates and committees that support the Credit Union Movement. For the 2009-2010 election cycle CULAC has raised over $3.5 million. CULAC disbursed nearly $2.8 million directly to federal candidates and committees for the 2010 elections, 56% to Democrats and 44% to Republicans. Additionally, CULAC spent a record $837,000 on Independent Expenditures (IEs) in six competitive races in support of credit union friendly candidates. It is your continued support and involvement that provides us with the resources to elect credit union advocates to Congress.
Individuals who are associated with CUNAs state credit union leagues and with CUNA-affiliated credit unions who have signed Permission Agreement 2012 with their leagues are eligible to participate in CULAC. All contributions to CULAC are strictly voluntary and are not tax deductible for federal income tax purposes. For more information about CULAC, contact your state credit union league or CUNAs Political Affairs staff at 202-638-5777.
