Credit Union Political Spotlight
Lonnie L. Bone
The "Political Spotlight" shines on Lonnie Bone (A.K.A. "Lon"), Vice President of Marketing at
T&C Federal Credit Union in Bloomfield Hills, MI. Lon has grown with T&C for over 35 years and is
very active in his community and the credit union movement. Lon has had the "political bug" for
quite some time and not only serves on the CULAC Trustees Executive Committee; he also serves on the
following political campaigns:
- Congressman Joe Knollenberg R-MI-9 (10 yrs.)
- Congressman Dale Kildee D-MI-4 (14 yrs.)
- Governor Jennifer Granholm -D (2005 & 2006)
- State Senator Michael Bishop -R (4 yrs.)
- candidate for State Representative, County Commissioner Martin Knollenberg R (2006)
Lons first political experience was when he was only 12 years old while growing up in a small city. There was a city ordinance limiting dog ownership to two; Lons father had just repainted the family car and when they opened the garage there were several cats crawling on the freshly painted car. The neighbors had dozens of cats that were a nuisance to the Bone family. Lon decided that he would do something about it and drafted a petition to create a city ordinance limiting cat ownership to two. Lon knocked on doors, organized a city hall meeting and received attention from the local newspaper.
One of Lons most memorable political experiences was hosting Governor Granholm at his home for a fundraiser. Being engaged in the political process has brought Lon great personal satisfaction and has been beneficial to credit unions. "We as the Credit Union movement need to work with people who are running for office and are supporting the Credit Union movement, regardless of party affiliation," said Lon Bone.
