Election Watch 2006
Get Out the Vote 2006!
Credit unions can provide a valuable public service by encouraging their members to head to the polls and vote on Election Day. With one of the largest constituency groups in the country, it is time for credit unions to get involved and send their members to the voting booth.
It may seem hard to believe, but in some states, primary elections for congressional and state races have already taken place or are quickly approaching. The time is now for credit union members to get organized and get active.
Activities for credit union members that can make a difference:
- Register CU members to vote. If credit union members dont vote, credit union members dont count! Be sure to visit our website to register to vote in your state.
- Encourage early or absentee voting. Its now easier than ever to vote early in most states. Check out http://creditunions.helpingamericansvote.org to find out how.
- Write a letter to the editor about a candidate who supports credit unions. Local papers are the key to getting your message out.
- Recruit and sign up volunteers for state and federal campaigns.
- Run articles in your credit union newsletters regarding candidates. Candidate profiles, as well as voter guides detailing positions of candidates, are an excellent way to get out information.
- Display posters in your credit union. CUNA is once again offering artwork for Get-Out-the- Vote posters. The artwork, available at http://www.cuna.org/2006elections, is free and can be downloaded, customized and reproduced for use in your credit union. The posters can be used for both primary and general elections.
- Run Project Zip Code!
- Contribute to Credit Union PACs or directly to state and federal candidates.
Please dont miss the opportunity to make credit unions voice heard loud and clear by showing lawmakers that credit union members are politically active and vote!
