Washington also employed other formal customs, such as riding in a carriage pulled by six cream-colored horses and having his servants wear powder in their hair. Answer 2. Although the first telephone message was exchanged between Thomas Watson and Alexander Graham Bell in 1876, it wasn't until 1929 that an American president, Herbert Hoover, had a telephone on his desk.
