MOTOR PARTS FEDERAL CREDIT UNION
As a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative, Motor Parts Federal Credit Union is committed to our members. We will uphold our fundamental responsibility to actively serve people within our field of membership, and as appropriate, the communities they live in. We will treat all members with respect and dignity and we will offer honest, fair deals to all members at all times. We will deliver a range of low cost products and services to the diverse economic and social make-up of our members and potential members. We will look for better ways to reach out to the underserved in our field of membership. And we will continually, in all facets of operations, demonstrate the value of membership in Motor Parts Federal Credit Union.
We will monitor and communicate our service to members in a meaningful way so that members, potential members, legislators, regulators, and the community at large will understand and appreciate the unique role that member-owned financial cooperatives play in their lives.
Throughout Motor Parts Federal Credit Union's strategic plan, we will put forth every effort to enable our members to become financially self-sufficient and successful. We will place high importance on consumer education and the teaching of financial thrift.
This Statement of Commitment to Members is consistent with our credit union principles of "Not For Profit, Not For Charity, But For Service" and our philosophy of "People Helping People". This statement represents good business practices that ensure the financial strength of our credit union on behalf of our members.
Section 1: Service to Members
Motor Parts Federal Credit Union strives to offer services designed to improve the economic and social well being of all members from all socio-economic backgrounds, including our low- and moderate-income members, and return financial value to all those who participate in our member-owned financial cooperative.
Current Services that Help Improve the Economic and Social Well Being of Members
- Member discounts: DOC, Airtouch Cellular, Auto and Life Insurance, Cedar Point, Sea World, Entertainment Books, Disney's Magic Kingdom Club, Henry Ford Museum/Greenfield Village.
- Free accounts for members under 18 and over 62 (no membership fee assessed).
- YMS savings and checking accounts to help members age 18-22 get started financially.
- Free checks for senior citizens.
- Advising members of locations of surcharge-free ATMs.
- Free basic overdraft protection.
- No processing fees for consumer loans.
- No fees for basic (single-signature) travelers' checks.
- Loan extensions in emergency situations.
- Referring people who don't qualify for membership in MPFCU to another credit union or to the Credit Union League for more information.
New Services Planned for the Coming Year:
- Online bill payment
- Product enhancements - lower Visa® rates, increased ATM accessibility for Ohio members by expansion of ATM networks.
- Escrow accounts will be established for taxes and insurance for mortgage loans.
Section II: Member Education
Motor Parts Federal Credit Union is committed to member and consumer financial education; in addition we are committed to educating members and consumers, alike, about credit union uniqueness, philosophy, and values.
Current Programs that Support Member Education and Advocacy
- Member Matters and YMS newsletters quarterly. We include several articles each issue on topics that will help members be more informed consumers.
- Financial planning seminars.
- Heavy emphasis on staff training and education - in-house seminars, STAR and MERIT modules, offsite classes and seminars, tuition reimbursement for employees.
- Membership drives at SEG locations to recruit new members and update current members on our offerings and promotions.
- Limited consumer credit counseling with members.
- Provide wide range of brochures, flyers, etc. detailing our products and services.
New Programs Planned for the Coming Year:
- Expansion of our web site links to many informative and consumer-oriented web sites.
- Family Day at Perrsyburg branch to highlight Earnie the Early Bird and children's activities.
Section III: Involvement/Governance
Motor Parts Federal Credit Union will endeavor to preserve credit union democratic principles, including demographic representation and volunteer participation in credit union activities.
Current Programs that support Involvement/Governance
- Recruiting drive for new board members (Wanted! Campaign).
- Announcement of Annual Meeting and promotion of same with posters, newsletter articles, flyers and web site announcements.
- Board volunteers are encouraged to complete Volunteer Achievement Program modules.
- Yearly all-staff credit union planning sessions, where every employee's input is encouraged.
- Quarterly FYI meetings for credit union departmental and branch managers to review the credit union's status.
- Yearly Board and Management credit union planning sessions.
- President/CEO and Executive Vice President are members of various credit union-related groups; Marketing Director is a member of CUES; Mortgage Manager participates in area Lending Consortium; Human Resources Manager belongs to area HR Consortium; IS Manager is a member of Symitar Midwest Users Group.

Section IV: Diversity
Motor Parts Federal Credit Union recognizes the value of demographic diversity in staff as well as in volunteers, and will strive to bring people of diverse backgrounds and experiences into leadership and other roles at the credit union.Current Programs that Promote Diversity
- Credit union offers flexible work schedules to accommodate family and other obligations.
- Credit union offers optional workplace diversity self-study program to all employees.
- Credit union offers free checking to senior citizens, waives membership fee for members under 18 years old and over 62 years old, and YMS program for members age 18-22.
- Credit union does risk-based lending to aid consumers who might not otherwise be able to qualify for loans, etc.
New Programs Planned for the Coming Year:
- Expanding field of membership by recruiting new SEGs.
Section V: Commitment to the Credit Union Movement and other Cooperative Activities
Motor Parts Federal Credit Union will work to build and strengthen our unique credit union movement by providing financial and in-kind resources to others within the credit union community, and by actively advocating the credit union difference at all levels of government and in other appropriate public forums. In addition, Motor Parts Federal Credit Union will participate in local, state and national cooperative activities as appropriate, and will strive to build and strengthen relationships with other sectors of the national cooperative movement.
Current Activities that Support the Credit Union Movement
- Use of Images and Ink (MCUL) for supplies.
- Patronizing vendors that serve only credit unions.
- Investing in other credit unions by purchasing their CDs and money markets.
- Participating in MCUL and OCUL seminars and attending other chapter functions.

Section VI: Public Service / Corporate Citizenship
Through direct financial support or other in-kind contributions to worthwhile local organizations, and by participating in public service activities, Motor Parts Federal Credit Union strives to be an active partner in our community. We recognize that practicing good Corporate Citizenship supports the Credit Union Philosophy of People Helping People; furthermore, it will help raise the overall level of social and economic well being of those in our community, help to strengthen ties within the community, and better position us to reach out and serve - as only credit unions can - those people in greatest need of affordable financial services.
Community/FOM Groups Currently Receiving Financial or Other In-Kind Support (including the support given) and Current Public Service Activities
- Participation in Angel Program, Perrysburg OH Gymnastics League, Golf League, Children's Miracle Network, Girl Scouts, Northwood OH Fire Department, Kiwanis Club, Harrison Rally Day/Perrysburg Foundation Day; member of local Chamber of Commerce; sponsored public service announcements on radio stations.
- Participate in Adopt-a-Family program at Christmas and Thanksgiving; member of Kiwanis Club.
- Member of Auburn Hills Chamber of Commerce; sponsor of annual Auburn Hills Chamber of Commerce golf outing; sponsor of MADD in Michigan and Ohio. volunteer at Michigan Humane Society; participate in MDA Shamrocks and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Pumpkin Pin-Ups programs, Partners in Literacy, Toys for Tots; donate funds and holiday gifts to union locals; sponsored teen to Olympic camp.
New Public Service Activities Planned for the Coming Year:
- Perrysburg - sponsor Chamber of Commerce business luncheons and local blood and bone marrow drives; sponsor public service announcements on local radio stations; participate in Adopt-a-Highway and Adopt-a-Grandparent programs.
