MADISON, Wis. – Mary Olson, Kathryn Davis, and Nancy Hutchinson were honored for their credit union marketing and business development achievements during a ceremony at the CUNA Marketing and Business Development Council (CMBDC) Conference, which took place March 11-14 in San Diego.

Mary Olson, vice president of marketing for Delta Community CU in Atlanta was the 2009 Hall of Fame inductee. With her credit union since 1996, she most recently led Delta CCU through an extensive rebranding effort to match its look and message with the credit union’s new community charter. She also helped launch an aggressive branch expansion effort and a “Standing Strong” CD promotion this past fall that brought in $278 million and 1,274 new members in just six weeks. Olson was also a charter member of CMBDC, and served in many different roles on the executive committee, including tenures as vice chair and chair. She served on her state league’s cooperative advertising committee and as a board member for the financial literacy organization, Operation Hope. Her more than 30-year tenure in the credit union movement has also included positions with industry organizations such as CUNA Mutual Group, Georgia Credit Union Affiliates, and CUNA.

Kathryn Davis, senior vice president of marketing for Xceed Financial CU in El Segundo, Calif., won the Marketing Professional of the Year Award. Davis headed up a major rebranding and name change that refocused the entire credit union. Her new strategy sought to reach out to working people in the credit union’s community at a time when it mattered most, using innovative e-mail and Web strategies and guerilla marketing techniques that connected to the audience and made the credit union relevant again. Davis also lends her expertise as a conference speaker and as a member of the Filene Research Institute’s i3 team, a group of executives dedicated to stimulating the development of new ideas and innovations for credit unions.

Nancy Hutchinson, senior vice president of marketing and business development for Minnesota Power Employees CU in Duluth, Minn., was presented with the Business Development Professional of the Year Award. During her 12-year tenure at her credit union, Hutchinson developed programs that have helped increase membership by 41 percent and more than doubled asset size. She also introduced a model to increase membership penetration in select employees groups, and created branding strategies, a new Web site, and a youth financial literacy program for her credit union.

An in-depth article on the winners and their achievements will be featured in the May 2009 issue of Credit Union Magazine. For more information on the CMBDC awards, go to
