MADISON, Wis. - Topics for CUNA’s upcoming Pressing CU Compliance Issues audio conference were recently announced.

The two-part agenda for the Tuesday, Nov. 13 audio conference – as determined by feedback received from credit unions – is:
Part I: Areas currently requiring special attention by credit unions

  • New FACTA regulations and guidelines on identity theft “red flags” and address discrepancies,
  • New FACTA regulations on affiliate marketing,
  • What NCUA’s new requirements on member access to federal credit union records and re-regulation of the federal credit union bylaws practically mean,
  • BSA developments,
  • When to use the NCUA and equal lending logos on advertisements, and
  • Overdraft protection programs’ compliance issues.

Part II: Quick overview of other compliance issues coming down the pike

  • Regulation Z’s proposal on open-end credit agencies’ proposed best practices for handling garnishment orders,
  • Internet gambling proposed regulation,
  • Possible changes to the federal flood insurance law, and
  • Possible change in when to file a Form 1099-C (discharge of indebtedness) and other Congressional efforts to address problems in mortgage lending.

A panel of compliance experts from CUNA and various credit union organizations will tackle these topics and clarify the areas of concern. Participants will also have an opportunity to ask questions during the conference.
