Phishing Attack Detection, Elimination Service For CUs Available Through CUNA, Perimeter AllianceJuly 18, 2006FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MADISON, Wis. – With phishing attacks increasing at a rate of 24 percent each month, credit unions have a new resource that will quickly discover and shut down these attacks and false Web sites through the strategic alliance between CUNA and Perimeter Internetworking. CounterPhish - an anti-phishing incident response service designed to rapidly detect and stop phishing attacks - is Perimeter’s newest product included in the managed network security services offerings for credit unions. The service operates on a 24/7 basis, averages a three-hour take down time for fake sites, and can address attacks in 15 languages. When an attack has been launched, credit unions are quickly notified and provided with a well-defined incident management process for employees and clients to easily follow. The service begins submitting false data to the phishing site as part of a dilution process to decrease the amount of legitimate responses from the credit union’s customers and minimize damage. The attack is quickly traced and the Internet Service Provider or hosting provider is contacted to have the site shut down. Once a site has been shut down, the service continues to monitor the site for any changes, and provides a disk to the credit union with all of the data forensic information from the attack once the incident is closed. The credit union is also offered the option to set up live “dummy” accounts for the purpose of tracking the attacker’s movements.
