MADISON, Wis. – John Donovan, chief operating officer of the Lending Club, will explain how his peer-to-peer lending company successfully utilizes social networking sites to attract Generation Y during his keynote speech at the “Your Essential Strategies (YES) Summit: Serving 18-30s,” taking place Dec. 3-5, 2007, in Austin, Texas.

Lending Club launched May 2007 using Facebook as a platform to appeal to the Gen Y demographic. It amassed over $1 million in loans originated by September. Donovan will discuss Lending Club's use of a social networking site as a primary means to attract a customer/member base, the challenges of serving 18-to-30s with new types of mediums, and the opportunities he sees for credit unions and young adults.

Additional topics such as debt management, creditworthiness, money management, asset building, payday lending, and blogging will also be considered, as they pertain to young adults, along with how credit unions can help with each of these issues. The conference will also explore how to attract and retain this demographic as employees and board members.
