MADISON, WI – As originally planned, the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) will stop accepting donations for the Credit Unions Rebuild America (CURA) Disaster Relief Fund on Thanksgiving. Checks meant for the CURA Fund should be postmarked no later than Friday, November 23, 2001.

"It's been amazing to watch the credit union response to the events of September 11, says Bruce Wheeler, director of Donor and Public Relations for the NCUF. "Not just in support of CURA, but also in support of the New York Credit Union Foundation and other relief groups."

The Fund currently stands at more than $400,000 and the NCUF reports that an additional $90,000 is being sent by Liberty.

The CURA Fund was established to help victims of the Sept. 11 disaster in New York and Washington, D.C. For more information, visit www.cuna.org/ncuf or contact Kris Hoffman, NCUF Development Associate at (800) 356-9655, ext. 4397.

Established in 1980, NCUF is the U.S. credit union movement's primary charitable and fundraising organization for worldwide credit union development. The foundation has given more than $8.4 million in grants, including those for international development, domestic credit union development, disaster relief at home and abroad, national model programs, and scholarships. Visit the Foundation's web site at http://www.ncuf.coop.
