WASHINGTON -- CUNA’s 2008 Governmental Affairs Conference will end on a lighter note with humorist and best-selling author Dave Barry as closing speaker.
A prolific writer, Barry has authored a number of best-selling books, including the just-published “Dave Barry’s History of the Millennium (So Far),” and for 25 years his column appeared in more than 500 newspapers worldwide. Two of his books were the basis for the CBS-TV sitcom, Dave’s World.
“After four days of focusing on legislation, regulation, politics and the campaigns, we felt it would be a nice touch to conclude the conference with one of the most entertaining speakers the GAC has ever had,” said CUNA President and CEO Dan Mica. “This conference is shaping up to be our best GAC yet, start to finish.”
The 2008 GAC is March 2 – 6, and CUNA’s first at the landmark Washington Convention Center. Barry will speak to the GAC on Thursday morning, March 6.
Also featured on the 2008 GAC program are Gen. Colin Powell (March 3) and political commentator Chris Matthews (March 4), host of MSNBC’s “Hardball” and NBC’s “The Chris Matthews Show.” New to the GAC this year is an opening kickoff concert Sunday evening, March 2, featuring the band “America” and sponsored by the CUNA Councils.
Additional speakers will be announced in coming weeks as they are confirmed.
