WASHINGTON – Credit Union National Association (CUNA) has won the Award of Excellence in the 2006 Associations Advance America (AAA) Awards, a national competition sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), Washington, DC.
CUNA received the award for its Home Loan Payment Relief (HLPR) program. HLPR is now in the running to receive a Summit Award, ASAE’s top recognition for association programs, to be presented in ceremonies at ASAE’s 7th Annual Summit Awards Dinner at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC, on Sept. 20.
HLPR program makes available below-market-rate mortgage loans to borrowers with household incomes at or below the median in their markets. Participating credit unions voluntarily bear the cost so that the loans can be offered at this more affordable rate as part of their commitment to serving people of modest means. The HLPR mortgage is one initiative of many that credit unions around the country offer to assist lower-income members and their communities.
Now in its 16th year, the prestigious Associations Advance America (AAA) Awards program recognizes associations that propel America forward—with innovative projects in education, skills training, standards-setting, business and social innovation, knowledge creation, citizenship, and community service. Although association activities have a powerful impact on everyday life, they often go unnoticed by the general public.
“CUNA’s HLPR program truly embodies the spirit of the Associations Advance America campaign. It is an honor and an inspiration to showcase this activity as an example of the many contributions association are making to advance American society,” remarked AAA Committee Chair Bill Bergman, president of William S. Bergman Associates.
