MADISON, WI — The National Credit Union Foundation’s 2001 Golf Classic is set for Sunday, October 14, 2001 at the Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita, California. The event will be held in conjunction with the California Credit Union League’s Annual Meeting.

"We're very proud to be the first league to host a major event like this for the National Credit Union Foundation," says Dave Chatfield, President and CEO of the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues. "A golf tournament is a great way to raise money and the Foundation's many programs in support of credit union development are a most worthy cause."

Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place teams. Individual contests include closest to the pin, longest drive, shortest drive, and longest putt with separate awards for male and female golfers.

"We hold two major fundraisers each year - the Wegner Dinner at GAC and the annual Golf Classic," says John Fiore, NCUF Chairman. "This year we're trying something new by holding our golf tournament in conjunction with a league's annual meeting and we're thrilled to have this opportunity to build even stronger ties with our credit union supporters on the west coast."

The registration deadline is October 1, and the event is limited to 144 participants. The registration fee of $150 includes green fees and cart, continental breakfast, lunch and refreshments, gift bag, and bus transportation to/from the Disneyland Hotel. To register, contact Angela Dailey, California CU League, at 800-472-1702 ext. 3260, or e-mail angelad@ccul.org.

"It's a real honor to have our golf tournament hosted by the California Credit Union League this year," says Pat Brownell, Executive Director of the National Credit Union Foundation. "But this is very definitely a national event in support of the National Credit Union Foundation. I hope to see some of our supporters from the North, South and East join us in the West for this fundraiser."

Sponsorships for the event are also still available. Contact Kris Hoffman, National CU Foundation, at 800-356-9655 ext. 4397, or e-mail khoffman@cuna.com for more information. Downloadable sponsor forms can also be obtained from the Foundation’s Web site at http://www.ncuf.coop.
