MADISON, Wis. – The CUNA Supervisory Committee & Internal Audit Conference, December 7-9, 2009 in Las Vegas will give attendees an opportunity to share ideas and gain knowledge on important auditing, compliance and fraud topics.

"If credit union supervisory committees and auditors only go to one conference this year, this event will more than fulfill their needs," said Todd Spiczenski, CUNA vice president, Center for Professional Development. "Attendees will have the special opportunity to hear from engaging speakers who have spent years working to help credit unions succeed."

The conference focuses on ways to help attendees perform their responsibilities as the "watchdogs" of the credit union. Highlights include:

  • Today’s Economy & the Risks for Your Credit Union
  • Critical Importance of Your Role on the Supervisory Committee
  • Current Compliance Issues: A Rundown of the Highest Priority Compliance Issues of the Year
  • Is Data Leaking Out of Your Organization?
  • An Overview of Credit Risk
  • How Does the Auditor Become Your Best Friend?
  • Red Flags Workshop
  • Credit Union Performance Metrics
  • IT Audits & What to Pay Attention To
  • Mortgage Market Fraud & Its New Face in Light of the Current Economic Conditions
  • Understanding & Mitigating Risk: An Overview

As a change of pace, the conferees will also hear a "semi-serious and occasionally honest" presentation by Denny Graham, I Can’t Believe I’ve Been at This Over 40 Years (And What I’ve Learned in the Process). Graham was always the youngest teller, service rep, loan officer, branch manager, VP or SVP. And then he woke up one day to realize that was no longer the case. He will pass along key lessons learned — and how you can apply them to your role in the credit union.

Attendees can expand their learning experience by registering for the September 5-6 preconference workshop, Supervisory Committee Fundamentals, with Tim Harrington, a CPA with a knack for making complex subjects very simple.
