MADISON, WI -- Smaller credit unions face the same challenges their larger counterparts face: finding a niche in the increasingly competitive financial services marketplace.

CUNA’s Symposium 2001 has several features aimed especially at smaller credit unions, including a pre-
conference workshop on small credit union issues in e-business, conference sessions designed specifically for small credit unions and pricing arrangements aimed at making the Symposium more accessible to small credit unions.

  • The pre-conference workshop, "An e-Business Day for Small Credit Unions," will examine current Web site
trends and usage for small—but growing—credit unions. Staff from credit unions will describe how
they are taking creative, leading-edge approaches to member service technology. Participants will help
design a model web page and experience first-hand the ease of "do-it-yourself" technology. Meeting NCUA’s
new online privacy and security guidelines will also be addressed.

  • The Symposium will
feature two conference sessions specifically for small credit unions. Sunday’s session, "Refuse to Think
Small: Thrive, Don’t Dive!" is a best practices session for small credit unions led by Steve Goldberg, vice
president of Small Credit Union Development at CUNA Mutual. In Monday’s session, "Leveraging Technology
Today: A Model for the Small Dogs," Janet Harris, CEO of Riverside Health Systems Employees CU, provides a
compelling example of how size doesn’t matter when taking a creative, bold approach to member service.
Participants will learn how a $4.5 million asset credit union went virtual to provide total electronic credit
    union services.

  • Symposium 2001 features new attendance options. Participants can choose to
attend the pre-conference workshop and Exhibit Hall on Saturday, or come just for the day on Sunday or
Monday. And credit unions with assets of $20 million or less can attend the full conference from Sunday
through Tuesday for just $300, a savings of over 50% off the regular price of $695.

Symposium 2001 is for top management of credit unions, credit union boards of directors and anyone interested in working smarter, serving members better and planning for a successful future for their credit union. This year’s event will feature two tracks; one for directors and one for CEOs and staff. The focus is on e-business and how to integrate it with both your members’ needs and your credit union’s goals and strategy.
