Instructors

Harry Strausser, III

Harry is president of the Remit Corporation and Interact Training and Development where he oversees the operation of a full-service collection agency and coordinates the training programs of its educational subsidiary. Harry is active in both the Pennsylvania Collectors Association and ACA International in which he is a certified instructor. He has instructed more than 150 seminars for the ACA. At the 1993 International Conference in San Antonio, he was named "instructor of the year" for that organization and is a member of the International Fellowship of Certified Collection Executives. In January 1998 he was the recipient of the Kurt Swersky Innovative Leadership Award at the Leadership Forum of the American Collectors Association held at Snowmass, CO. He was a founding board member of the Northeast Pennsylvania Chapter of the International Credit Association. He currently serves on the ACA International Executive Committee as treasurer.


Rob Rutkowski

Rob is the "jack of all trades"- an attorney, blogger, podcast producer, nationally-recognized speaker and managing partner of the credit union department of Weltman, Weinberg & Reis Co., L.P.A. Through his work at WWR, Rob advises credit unions on compliance, contract negotiation, and employment law as well as a vast array of collection and legal issues. Rob is a well-known lecturer nationwide on topics such as marketing, lending, compliance, director and officer liability, disaster recovery, identity theft, credit union accounts and a variety of laws impacting credit unions, such as the Bank Secrecy Act.

A former member of the Board of Directors for the Lake County Educational Federal Credit Union, Rob remains very involved with the legal issues that matter to the credit union movement. He is the producer and co-host of the monthly Current Issues in Credit Unions podcast and the author of That Credit Union Blog, which is dedicated to covering timely credit union legal news. He has also been published in Credit Union Magazine, Credit Union Management Magazine, The Cleveland Bar Journal and The National List.


Rod Griffin

Rod is director of Public Education for Experian. He is responsible for Experian’s national consumer education program and supports the company’s community involvement and corporate responsibility efforts.

He produces a variety of consumer education materials and for more than a decade has written Ask Experian, an online consumer credit advice column, with Maxine Sweet, vice president of Public Education. On average, consumers today submit more than 2,000 questions to the column each month.

Rod speaks regularly at regional and national financial literacy events and supports various national consumer education initiatives including the LifeSmarts Consumer Knowledge Competition, for which he serves on the Corporate Advisory Board, and the Jumpstart Coalition for Financial Literacy with the goal of promoting financial education for America’s youth.

He partners with consumer organizations including Call For Action, the National Consumers League, the National Association of Consumer Agency Administrators, the Consumer Federation of America and many others to provide individuals with important credit and other financial information.

Rod also works closely with state attorneys general, offices of consumer affairs, and other government agencies to address consumer concerns and responds to inquiries from the media, consumer credit counselors, and educators to ensure they have accurate, up-to-date information about consumer credit and credit reporting.


David Reed

Attorney, author, consultant and nationally recognized speaker, David is a partner in the law firm of Reed and Jolly, PLLC and founder of CU Doctor, a full service credit union consulting practice. Through Reed and Jolly, David provides guidance to credit unions concerning a variety of matters including the establishment and revision of credit union policies and procedures, organizational compliance, collections, security, contractual agreements, regulatory matters and corporate governance.

David is particularly noted as an expert in the areas of credit union operations, bankruptcy and collections. He has been selected to train NCUA Field Examination and Audit Staff on numerous issues including ID Theft Red Flags, S.A.F.E Act, Third Party Contract Management and Bankruptcy matters.

Scholarships Now Available!

The CUNA Lending Council offers scholarships each year to eligible individuals. Each award will be for up to $2500, and can be used toward expenses for CUNA Center for Professional Development (CPD) school tuition.

Scholarships will be approved prior to attendance of the school, but reimbursed after proof of attendance is provided. Scholarship recipients must stay at the hotel in which the conference takes place. Learn more or apply for a scholarship here.

Cancellations

The last day for cancellations was September 26, 2010. Substitutions are accepted anytime prior to the start of the program at no additional cost. Simply fax event and contact information, listing the new participant and who they will be replacing. Cancellation fees do not apply for free or complimentary programs.
