Topics And Objectives

Creating an Outrageously Cool Culture Where Engagement is High, Connections are Strong, Change is Awesome and People are Not Just Feeling Good, They're Feeling the LOVE

Creating outstanding experiences for members and co-workers is the natural result of having an engaged, enthused and inspired culture where people feel a sense of purpose, a sense of pride and a sense of connectedness. It’s also what this fun, fast-moving, insightful session is all about! While it may sound like a tall order to fill, don’t worry because having a cool and committed culture is not the result of a great and heroic act, it is the natural result of several small, important acts that anyone can start doing more of today!

You will leave this insight-filled session with ideas you can implement immediately to avoid burnout, eliminate stress, get more engaged, feel better, and have more fun! Your work can only get better when you do. Discover your inner motivation and help your team discover theirs too! You’ll discover ways to keep yourself motivated and your batteries charged, all while creating an outrageously cool culture where engagement is high, connections are strong, change is awesome, and people are not just feeling good, they're feeling the LOVE!

The Dog Poop Initiative: Teaching Through Stories

We know that students who are actively engaged in learning retain more information and are better able to apply what they have learned on the job. We also know that good examples and practice scenarios are basic principles of instructional design, but do we always use them in the most effective way? By using the same principles and skills that successful writers use, instructional designers can boost their examples, scenarios and case studies to the next level. Using stories in courseware design is an effective and interesting way to increase engagement and, ultimately, improve performance. In this session, we’ll discuss how using stories will increase learner engagement and retention and see first hand how Kirk uses his story to initiate a world wide culture shift.

Encouraging Inclusion: Leadership & the Art of Nurturing Diversity

Each time one person feels less valued, the entire community suffers as that person withdraws her/his unique contributions. Whether we are thinking about our organization or considering the global community, leadership includes a responsibility to strengthen our individual and team potential. This dynamic session will explore the challenges and opportunities of working and living in a diverse environment.

I’m O.K., You’re Insane: The People Side of Project Management

You apply solid project management approaches, you work your plan, you roll with the punches, but you’re still having trouble with the people that you need to get the project done. If you’re managing multiple projects with multiple stakeholders, all of whom don’t have to help you unless they want to, this session is for you. Lou will lead you through small simulations to teach you concrete ways to build collaboration, leverage negotiation, and manage through change transition. You’ll leave with both insight and strategic “to dos” to help you immediately get your projects finished.

How ELL Can Get You Fired...or Fired Up!

You did it! You made it to San Diego, rocked out with HR and Training experts from all over the credit union world, soaked up a bazillion best practices, and are now filled with Hard Rock-fueled motivation. You can’t wait to blow off this final session, sleep in a bit longer instead, and then get back home to create a gaggle of glorious new training classes and HR programs.

Congratulations! You’re just a few steps away from getting fired. How?

In this funny, fast-paced, and brutally honest Grand Finale to ELL, a self-confessed credit union junkie will show you how to spot the HR and Training department dysfunctions that could kill your ideas and your career. More importantly, he’ll show you how to keep your shiny new initiatives on track, become an indispensable part of your credit union’s future, and stay fired up long after you leave ELL.

Advanced Trainers Set 1: Rock Your Outline, Roll Out Improved Outcomes

Want to deepen your presentation's effectiveness or improve your ability to rapidly design presentations? This fast-paced session will explore a fresh approach to instructional design by identifying the key touch points an instructor can use to impact training participants. This session is ideal for trainers looking to refresh presentations they have given for several years and for people who frequently design new presentations. While newer training professionals may benefit from this session, the content is geared for those who are comfortable and competent with classroom training.

Advanced Trainers Set 2: Pumping Up the Volume on Participant Engagement

Do you dread awkward silences after you ask a group a question? Do you long to limit the impact of overly-dominant participants, or are you simply looking for simple and effective tools that can make your presentations more engaging, more interactive, and more effective? We are going to experience a handful of techniques that have helped hundreds of trainers expand their instructional design toolkits. Attending Advanced Trainers Set 1 is helpful, but not required.

Putting Your Content to Work

If you’ve ever heard yourself mutter “but I’m only one person," then this session is for you! You’re going to take all of the resources and contacts you’ve collected at ELL and build a plan for taking them back to your credit union. You’ll discuss ideas, tackle strategic prioritization, identify ways to plant seeds, exchange resources, and talk about best practices. The conference advisory group will help you build a plan scaling the conference concepts and ideas into an actionable plan for you to implement when you get back to your credit union.

Improving Your Trainer Skills & Techniques

Whether you’re brand new to training or you’ve been training for years, you’ll benefit from looking at your own training skills and focusing on how you can improve it. In this session, you’ll practice handling reactions and challenges constructively and confidently. You’ll learn and practice behaviors that will help build staffs self-esteem, identify your training strengths, and recognize future development areas. Come prepared to be coached to reach a higher level of training proficiency!

Credit Union Mashups: HR's Role in Mergers
