Do you know the purpose and requirements for tax identification numbers?
Credit unions use tax identification numbers for multiple purposes, including identification and earnings reporting to the IRS. When a consumer applies for a credit union account, either as a member, or as a joint owner, their tax status is relevant.
The collection of this number is typically a onetime conversation with the member, so feeling more comfortable with your role should make it easier and more compliant.

Donya Parrish is the Vice President of Dues Supported Services for the Montana Credit Union Network. In that role, she supports Montana’s credit unions with compliance-related assistance, training, and information. For the last nine years, Donya has provided compliance support via the compliance hotline and is responsible for several resources and the compliance section of the Network’s website. In addition, she directs the advocacy, education, government relations, communication and PR efforts within Montana for credit unions. She has a B.S. in Business Finance and a minor in Economics and has obtained both her Credit Union Compliance Expert and Bank Secrecy Act Compliance Specialist designations. She has worked in the financial services industry for 18 years, including six years with the Federal Reserve Bank.

The last day for cancellations was September 20, 2011. Substitutions are accepted anytime prior to the start of the program at no additional cost.
