Selecting a CPA Firm & Overseeing the Audit: Tips from an Insiders Perspective
(Level 2, 3 credits, Annual Audit Category)
Michael Sacher
Many say that audits of credit unions have become a commodity product, and in many cases, its hard to argue with this impression. Audit staff, often young and very inexperienced come and go, too much time is spent without understanding how to identify truly risky areas, audit reports are delivered late, and small to mid-sized credit unions are often the step-child of the industry. Engaging an auditor who understands the issues facing credit unions is perhaps one of the most critical governance responsibilities of the supervisory committee. Learn about this process from Mikes 30-year experience and insider perspective. Let him provide you with the tips that will make your job easier.

What past attendees say
I have attended countless seminars over a lifetime. This one can be rated at the top.
One of the greatest rewards of attending programs such as this are the networking opportunities!
As a brand new supervisory committee member, I needed some very fundamental tools to develop a sound understanding of the task I am undertaking. This conference and the networking filled that objective.
I was very pleased that the program content was of great value to me as a director. I would strongly recommend that all directors attend and participate in a program of this type.
Real eye opener. As a member of the Supervisory Committee, I was amazed at all the ways people can steal from a CU.
I picked up valuable knowledge to help me enhance my credit union participation, as well as some tips I can use on other boards I serve on.
It moved me and once again justified that good volunteers are needed to make our country and credit unions work for Americans. Im lucky to be one!
Hearing about the responsibilities of the Supervisory Committee sent home the message of the seriousness of our role in the credit union
Although our credit union is not large (2700 members) it was an eye opener to be made aware of the methods used to obtain others identities
It was great to have new and old committee members to share with and such vast sizes of CUs represented.
A lot of questions were answered by networking with others that had similar problems or challenges.
I liked how the staff encouraged networking-I met several great contacts as a result of this-this will be very helpful in the future-I will call them for info.
