Instructors

Dan Mica
Dan is president and CEO of Credit Union National Association, the leading trade association representing the nation’s 8,000 credit unions and credit union leagues in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives that today provide affordable financial services to nearly 93 million Americans.

Dan assumed his duties at CUNA in July 1996, a time of major internal and external challenge for the association. He returned the association to sound financial footing, raised its profile on Captol Hill and put in place an array of new political advocacy and grassroots mobilization programs. CUNA now consistently ranks among Washington's "powerhouse" lobbying organizations, and for seven years running he has been named by The Hill newspaper as one of the most influential former members of Congress who have since become lobbyists.

A five-term member of Congress, Dan represented his home state in Florida from 1979 to 1989 in the U.S. House of Representatives. After leaving Capitol Hill, he joined the American Council of Life Insurance in Washington, D.C., as executive vice president overseeing the federal affairs division. He was with ACLI, the life insurance industry’s leading trade group, from 1989 to 1996.

Debbie Matz
Debbie was nominated by President Barack Obama to serve as the eighth board chair of the National Credit Union Administration. As Chair of the NCUA Board, she is the spokesperson for the agency and oversees the regulation of federal credit unions and the administration of the federal insurance fund covering approximately 8,000 credit unions with over $800 billion in assets. Debbie has extensive experience on Capitol Hill. Prior to becoming NCUA board chair, she served on President Obama’s Economic Transition Team. From 2006 until June 2008, Debbie was the Executive Vice-President/Chief Operating Officer of a federal credit union serving 90,000 members with branches in the United States and Europe.

Karen Mills
Karen is a SBA Administrator.

Mary Dunn
Mary is senior vice president and deputy general counsel for the Credit Union National Association in Washington, DC. Mary currently leads CUNA's Regulatory Advocacy Department, which is comprised of three attorneys in addition to her. In this capacity, she presents credit union interests before the National Credit Union Administration, the Federal Reserve Board, the Federal Trade Commission, and other federal agencies.

Mary is responsible for correspondence with government agencies, including all regulatory comment letters CUNA files. She ensures that credit union regulatory developments are communicated to CUNA members on a timely basis through such publications as CUNA's RegWatch, a biweekly electronic newsletter. She is a frequent speaker at CUNA and league meetings. Mary is chief staff liaison to CUNA's Examination and Supervision Subcommittee and to the CUNA Federal Credit Union Subcommittee; she is also a liaison to the CUNA Governmental Affairs Committee.
