Bill to Block DOL Overtime Rule Introduced in House
Posted June 17, 2016 by CUNA Advocacy

This week Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.) filed H.J. Res 95, a motion of disapproval under the Congressional Review Act for the Department of Labor’s overtime rule. The overtime rule was finalized in May, and we recently outlined our concerns with the final rule in a letter sent to Congress. The House Education and Workforce Committee also held a hearing about potential unintended consequences of this rule last week.

The rule has received scrutiny from both Chambers of Congress, and pushback from many other industries, who are also concerned about the rule's unintended consequences. We expect a Senator to also introduce a similar resolution in the Senate sometime soon. However, even if the resolution passes both the House and the Senate, President Obama is very likely to veto it.

The rule is set to go into effect on December 1, 2016.
