Defense Authorization Bill Passes Free of Harmful Credit Union Provisions
Posted May 20, 2016 by CUNA Advocacy

Today the House passed the National Defense Authorization Act by a vote of 277 to 147. The NDAA bill is often a vehicle to attach other non-related legislation. We closely monitored the legislation throughout the process, analyzing the amendments to ensure that nothing potentially harmful to credit unions would be included. From the House Armed Services Committee, to the House Rules Committee (which packages the bill before sending it to the floor), to final passage on the floor of the House, we have confirmed that nothing detrimental to credit unions was included in the legislation.

Now that the House has passed NDAA, the Senate will take up consideration of the bill in the coming weeks. We will continue to be vigilant in ensuring that nothing harmful to the credit union community will be added to the Senate bill or in final reconciliation of the legislation.
