FCC Establishes Cost-Benefit Analysis Office
Posted December 10, 2018 by CUNA Advocacy

The FCC has officially established the Office of Economics and Analytics (OEA).  The Commission noted the addition of the OEA is intended to “integrate the use of economics and data analysis into the Commission's various rulemakings and other actions in a more comprehensive and thorough manner.”

CUNA is supportive of the increased use of full and impartial cost-benefit analyses by government agencies prior to those agencies approving an official action impacting credit unions.  To that end, CUNA has also called on the BCFP to more thoroughly consider the costs and benefits of a rule prior to finalization.

It is widely anticipated that the FCC will take action in 2019 to modernize its TCPA interpretations.  CUNA has been active on this issue, including submitting a petition requesting clarification on the definition of an “automatic telephone dialing system (ATDS).”
